World no. 4 Alexander Zverev has dropped out of the tournament after a defeat to Tunisian player Malik Jaziri in three sets by 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-4.
The world no. 61 claimed his second match victory in fifth ATP FedEx meetings with Munich Open champion, who caved in to the 34-year-old style of play which comes with strong forehand shots.
The German, 21, defended his title in Munich by beating Philip Kohlschreiber in straight set by 6-3, 6-3, and also reached the final in Rome but lost to world no.1 Rafael Nadal in three set.
Jaziri will face Georgian veteran Nikoloz Basilashvili in the quarter-finals on Friday.
