China Open 2018: Top Seed Juan del Potro Beats Albert Ramos, Set To Face Karen Khachanov In Second Round
Juan del Potro has booked his place in the second round of the tour 500 tournament in Beijing having eliminated Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets by 7-5, 6-3.
The top seed control the match over his Spaniard opponent who managed to break back at 5-4 in first set, but was put in check by claiming four straight games to win the opener, then moved on for a cruise through the second set to win his first match since US Open in September after an hour and half of play.
The Argentine, 30, claimed his third ATP Fedex series victory over Albert Ramos despite being treated for a minor knee injury during the match, and as he said in his post-match interview that, "It was a difficult start of the tournament for me. I think i did well. I serve well, which is important for my whole game...[about the knee injury] nothing dangerous [happened]."
The world no. 4 will in the next match, take on Russian Karen Khachanov who defeated American player Sam Querrey in straight sets by 6-4 6-4.
