Tiger Woods Wins First Tour Championship Title In Five Years
Tiger Woods has ended his five years title drought as he won the Tour Championship to claim his 80th PGA Tour title in Atlanta on Sunday.
The 42-year-old won the season ending tour by two shots after a remarkable comeback from spinal injury that devastated his form, leading to his world ranking to spiral down to 1,199, and a couple of dramatic incidents that ravaged his life in the past years, amongst which was his break up with his ex wife Elin Nordegren.
"At the beginning of the year, it was a tall order, " says Woods recalling how he started the season just coming out of spinal fusion surgery, "but as the year progressed i proved i could play, i knew i could do it again. It's been tough. I've had not-so-easy last couple of years."
The 14-time champion's surgery was expected to take about 19 months to heal after having a procedure done on him in April last year, but he soon return to the game last November.
Prior to the opening of the season, Tiger was arrested for suspicion of driving under influence in Jupiter, Florida in May. He pleaded guilty to his offence at the court and was sentenced to 12-month probation and ordered to pay a fine of $250.
