Shenzhen Open 2018: Andy Murray Ends Season After Losing To Fernando Verdasco
It has not been a pleasant season for Andy Murray who has been struggling to find his best form since January, and has now ended his season without winning a title after conceding defeat to Fernando Verdasco in the quarter-finals.
The Spaniard brought abrupt end to Murray's season and his bid for first title of the season after defeating him in straight sets by 6-4 6-4 after over an hour and forty five minutes of play in Shenzhen.
The 34-year-old has now defeated the Briton, 31, back-to-back after knocking him out in the second round of the U.S Open, but have lost 13 previous matches to the Brit in all sixteen ATP FedEx series.
As a result of the defeat, Murray's season ended in Shenzhen earlier than announced on the eve of the tournament, and will not participate in Beijing which was supposed to be his season's last due to a minor ankle injury.
However, Fernando reached his first tour-level semi-final on a hard surface in two years after his victory over the world no. 311 and will face Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in the semi-finals on Saturday.
