Andy Murray Announces Ending 2018 Season After Playing In Beijing, Blames Decision On Moves To Regain "Best Shape Possible"
Former world number one Andy Murray has announced he will be ending his 2018 season after appearing in Shenzhen and Beijing tournaments.
In a statement released by the world ranked 308th in clip posted to Facebook on Saturday, the Brit announced calling the season a day after Beijing, blaming his decision on regaining his "best shape possible" which can be attained by embarking on intense training before the start of next season.
"I am competing this week in Schenzhen and then next week in Beijing before calling an end to the year competitively. I am going to miss the last couple of tournaments of the year because I have decided with my team that I need a long period of training and reconditioning," said Murray.
Giving his reason for retiring from remaining tournaments after Beijing, the former British no. 1 added, "To get myself in the best shape possible for the 2019 season. Get myself back competing at the best tournaments again. I am looking forward to getting some hard training dome and making some improvements."
The 31-year-old has been struggling to find his top form since having hip surgery in January which also led to his withdrawal from Wimbledon.
