US Open 2018: Roger Federer Drops Out Benoit Paire To Reach Third Round
Benoit Paire has bowed out of the tournament as he could not make it past Roger Federer in the second round at Arthur Ashe stadium on Thursday.
Federer was all into the match with Benoit whom he last met at Gerry Webber in June, converting most break points to his advantage, forcing the 28-year-old to commit most unforced error (47), and booked his place in the third round after eliminating the Frenchman in three sets by 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
The five-time champion maintains a clean sheet against his French counterpart in all seven ATP Fedex head-to-head encounters, as he bids for his sixth title at the tournament he last won ten years ago.
In the third round which is scheduled for Saturday, Federer will take on entertaining Australian player Nick Kyrgio who came from behind after dropping the opener, to defeat French player Pierre-Hugues Herbert in four sets by 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3, 6-0.
