Rogers Cup 2018: Rafael Nadal Eliminates Stan Wawrinka To Reach Quarter-finals

In spite of interruption by rain at the opener, Rafael Nadal made it through by eliminating Stan Wawrinka to reach the quarter-finals in Toronto.
The three-time Gram Slam winner did not drop out easily, and fought hard to keep his head up holding the world number 1 to a tie-break at the second set, but the Spaniard made more points to have him knocked out in straight sets 7-5 7-6(4).
Nadal, 31, moves closer to winning his season's first hard-court title after a successful clay-court season, and leads over the Swiss in all ATP FedEx encounters by 17:3 In head to head counts.
"Quarter-finals after two good victories, tomorrow is the day to play a little better and that's what I'm going to try. " said Nadal after a tough match with Wawrinka.
Speaking about the effect of change in weather condition on the match, Nadal admitted he "made a very good comeback after the rain delay" to book his place in the quarter-finals.
"It was important game to win the first set and then I started the second set very well...there were some tough moments. I had to accept that," said Nadal.
Nadal will face in the quarter-finals Croatian Marin Cilic who defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman in straight sets 6-3 6-2.
