Mercedes' Boss Toto Wolff Admits Ferrari Have "Engine Power Advantage"
On Sunday, it was evident that Ferrari has pace advantage over Mercedes by the way Sebastian sped by to be in the lead, off course, that could not be dismissed by Hamilton who in admission said in recall that his title rival "drove past me like I wasn't even there."
In the qualifying on Saturday, Hamilton finished in pole position and that did not pay off for him at the final during which his pace was put to test by his rival, speeding by him to be in the front at the first lap and controlled the race throughout to cross finish line in first place for his fifth race victory of the season.
When Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, was asked about their performance compared to that of their title rival's, he admitted in terms of engine power they are in the disadvantage compared to them.
"We have seen that in qualifying," said Wolff "That power advantage is at various part of the straights. You can see even at the exits, [Ferrari] are not worse than ours. The engine keeps pulling."
He went further to speak on how the car was beaten by rival's at lap one saying " we can see they have a slight power advantage and then you add that to our weaknesses out of Turn 1 especially...If you're not very good at traction and you're being outperformed slight on power, that lap one happens."
As it is currently, Mercedes' lead in the championship is being challenged by their Ferrari which closed in on Hamilton now lead Sebastian by 17 points and even worse with team constructors which lead has been reduced to 15 points.
