McLaren's Fernando Alonso To Retire From Formula One By End Of Season
Formula One's Two-time champion Fernando Alonso has announced he is retiring from the sport by the end of the season and would like to take on "new adventures".
By the end of the season, the Spaniard, 37, and McLaren driver would completed his 17th season since his career first appearance in 2001.
Announcing his retirement, the McLaren driver said "after 17 wonderful years in this amazing sport it's time for me to make a change and move on."
Alonso has no prospect of coming close to competing for the World Championship title this season as he is ninth in the driver standings with 44 points.
"I made this decision some months ago and it was a firm one. There are still several grand prix to go this season, and I will take part in them with more commitment and passion than ever," he says.
McLaren has not been able to find their pace in race with other top flight team's like Red Bull, Ferarri and Mercedes, the former champion (2005 and 2006) has not reached any where near podium or pole position this season., and as he said in his statement he would like "exploring new adventures" after leaving the sport.
