Cincinnati Masters 2018: Roger Federer Eliminates Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic Thrashes Milos Raonic
Roger Federer and world no. 10 Novak Djokovic, have both reached the semi-finals after making it through tough matches with their opponents in Western & Southern Open, Cincinnati.
Roger Federer made a stunning comeback from a set down to defeat his compatriot Stan Wawrinka who could have knocked him out after dropping the opener, but wane in aggression in the decider as Federer cruised through to seal the victory in three sets by 6-7 7-6(6) 6-2.
Roger extended his lead over his compatriot in ATP FedEx meetings by 21:3 in his bid for his eighth title in Cincinnati.
He will face in his next match David Goffin who defeated Juan del Potro in straight set by 7-6(5) 7-6(4).
In another event, the five-time champion Novak Djokovic fought though an emotional quarter-final with Milos Raonic to book his place in the semi-finals.
The Serb dropped the second set to Raonic who won straight three game to be in 4-2 advantage and claiming the set to force the match into a decider after ther return from to the court following a suspension due to darkness.
In spite of emotional torment suffered by Djokovic after losing the second set, he regained his momentum and dominated the decider having the Canadian, 27, knocked out in three sets 7-5 4-6 6-3.
Having won the match, Djokovic is a match away from reaching the final as he bids to be the first player to win golden Masters title. Looking at the fixtures in the semi-final, it might end up to be another final match between him and his Swiss counterpart to whom he lost in 2015.
However, he will face in the semi-final Marin Cilic who defeated Pablo Carreno in straight sets by 7-6(7) 6-4.
