Cincinnati Masters 2018: Roger Federer Reaches Quarter-final By Defeating Leonardo Mayer
World number two Roger Federer somewhat cruised through to his first quarter-final since Wimbledon and will face his countryman Stan Wawrinka in his next match of Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Argentine Leonardo Mayer was comfortably thrashed by the Swiss at the opener, and did fight hard through to a tie-break in the second set in a bit to push the match into a decider, but the seven-time champion saved more points to win in straight sets by 6-1 7-6(7).
The Swiss exteneded his lead against the Argentine in all ATP FedEx encounters to 3:0 as he moved closer to winning his eighth title in Cincinnati which he last won in 2015 defeating Novak Djokovic.
