Cincinnati Masters 2018: Roger Federer Conveniently Thrashed Peter Gojowczyk In Opening Match
Roger Federer started off on a winning note in his first hard-court match since Australian Open as he conveniently thrashed German Peter Gojowczyk in Western & Southern Open.
The second seed wasted no time to have his opponent knocked out in a match he well controlled, cruising through the sets in just 72 minutes to claim the victory by 6-4 6-4.
The seven-time champion admitted to being anxious playing his first match since losing to South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the quarter-finals in Wimbledon as he said "I felt good in thaf first match, to be honest, walking out, hardly any nerves."
"Game plan is very simple. It's straightforward, it's fast-court tennis. I'm only feeling better every day that has gone by after Wimbledon. So it's nice to have played a match so my last match is not the Anderson match," he said recalling his defeated to the South African.
The world number two will face in the third round Argentine Leonardo Mayer who defeated Lucas Pouilla in straight sets by 7-6 (7) 6-4.
