British Rapper Stormzy Opens Scholarship Scheme To Help Black Students Go To University
British artist Stormzy has opened a scholarship scheme to help black students on their dream of attending prestigious universities including Cambridge.
The scheme set up by the London-born rapper targets two eligible students for now, and will cover the maintenance and tuition required for their studies at the university throughout the four-year period of their program of choice.
He made this known in an interview on BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat on Thursday, where he revealed the programme is aimed at assisting "bunch of academically brilliant, excellent students" with much needed to get to top flight universities.
"It's so important for black students, especially, to be aware that it can 100% be an option to attend a university of this calibre," said Stormzy.
Last year, Cambridge university was criticised for not admitting enough students from ethic minority background in spite of many of them having the required grades in their GCSE.
Stormzy went further to explain the need of getting an assist such as this saying, "I always said that there's a whole bunch of academically brilliant, excellent students who also need an incentive."
The 25-year-old won MasterCard British Album of the Year for his hit album "Gangster sign and Prayer" at the the 2018 Brit Awards.
