Aretha Franklin "Queen of Soul" Passes Away At 76
American singer Aretha Franklin, popularly known as "Queen of Soul, passed away at her resident on Thursday, from what was diagnosed as pancreatic cancer. She was aged 76.
The late singer who was born in 1942, began her music career in the 1960s and well known for how she was able to make the African Americans music with its religious undertone blend into the romantic rhythms of the secular.
The 18-time Grammy awards winning artist has a good list of all-time best souls to her credit such which includes "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", "Do Right Woman - Do Right Man", "Respect" and "Chain of Fools".
Amongst her life-time achievements in her music career was being the first woman and first black female artist to be inducted into the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame in 1987, and on the Billboard chart, 20 of her songs debut atop the chart as No.1 R&B hit release.
In the political scene, Ms Franklin, for four occasions was the guest artist of he inauguration of Presidents of the United States - Barack Obama in 2009, Bill Clinton in 1993 and Jimmy Carter in 1977 - and was guest artist at late Martin Luther King Jr funeral in 1968.
