Formula 1 defending champion Lewis Hamilton has secured two years contract extension with German automaker Mercedes AMG.
The new contract signed by the Briton, 33, will land him annual pay of £30 million and by adding bonuses he stands to get to it, that raises it up to about £40 million.
The four-time world champion, who joined Mercedes team from McLaren in 2013, has won three world championships with the maker - he won his first with McLaren in 2008- and would remain with the team until 2020.
Hamilton also announced the development to his followers on social media account saying in his caption to a picture update that "I have been in the Mercedes family since 1998. I am forever grateful for their continued support, unwavering love and protection over these year... A big thank you to the team for their patience and Toto for trusting in me."
Mercedes AMG executive director, Toto Wolff, in a statement described the Briton as one of the sport's "all-time great" with excellent track record.
"Mercedes has become Lewis' home in Formula One and his story is linked with the silver and green of Mercedes-AMG...I am very confident that we have some incredible chapters of our story together still to come," Toto said.
By extending his contract to 2020, Hamilton will have spent eight straight years with Mercedes. Thereby, making him the longest period a driver will stay in a team in the sport's history.
