Jay-Z Speaks On His Docu-Series "Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story" Says It's Intended To Educate People
Hip Hop artist Shawn Carter popularly known as Jay-Z has come out to give his opinion on a docu-series he produced "Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story" - a teenager who was killed by George Zimmerman in a gated community outside of Orlando.
The 48-year-old New York native was engaged in a phone conversation by a correspondent from New York Times who asked him questions on the series upon his arrival in the United States for the second leg of his joint tour "On The Run II" with his wife Beyoncé.
When asked if he is trying to use the court verdict on Trayvon/Zimmerman case as a platform to voice his political opinion of the country legal system he says, "I wouldn't use that as the catalyst. So many things have been going on and the whole climate in America has change again."
He went on to say, "There are alot of things going on that lead to these sort of films, these docs that I'm creating now. It's more of an education...people have to really see this. They have to see it again."
When asked if he is using the series to suggest more black celebrity involvement in issues like this he says, "No , I don't believe in that. I never did...That doesn't solve it".
Speaking of how he expect others to get involved he added "I think every one should check our compassion and empathy...And until we get into that place, things like this will continue to happen".
The docu-series which began screening on Monday, was co-produced by Weinstein Company and Jay-Z, but Harvey's company was later removed from its production following allegations of sexual assault and harrasement of Mr Harvey Weinstein.
