Stuttgart Opening: Roger Federer Beats Canada's Milos Raonic To Win First Mercedes Cup Title
The Mercedes Cup title has finally gone to Roger Federer who defeated Canada's Milos Raonic in straight sets by 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to win his first title in Stuttgart.
The Canada forced Roger to drop a game at the opener before he break the serve at the third game, smashing the ball deep into the court with his back hands to win the set, and upon return for second set, the world number 7 came back strong into the game but was overpowered by the top seed who rallied point to break the tie and won the match.
The Mercedes Cup is the Swizz's first title in eleven week after opting out of clay-court events, and has earned 250 points to lead by 100 points over Rafael Nadal (8,670 points) in ATP single men's ranking.
Speaking about wining the title, the world number one expressed his delight in his performance at the tournament and his return to ATP top ranking player saying "It was a great comeback for me. I am so happy to have won...I hope I keep it up at Halle and Wimbledon. It will give me a boost as well being back at world number one."
