Russia 2018 World Cup: Toni Kroos Injury Goal Keeps Germany's Hope Alive As They Beat Sweden 2-1
The defending champions' fate of staying in the tournament was hanging in the balance before an effort from Toni Kroos late in the injury time made a difference.
In spite of playing one man down in the second half of the match, Germany yet made off with maximum points after Sweden conceded two goals to be defeated by 2-1.
In the first half, Sweden made off with a goal to lead the game when Ola Toivonen brilliantly controlled the ball in the box after a cross and drilled in the ball for the opening goal.
Just minutes into the second half, Germany responded to the lead through Marco Reus who finished a chance in the box after Mario Gomez's cross in the 48th minutes for an equaliser.
The defending champions forfeited many chances that could have given the victory especially one from close range that Timo Werner left past him in 80th minutes and soon after that the tune of the game came desperate for the German when Jerome Boateng got red-carded.
