French Open 2018: Rafael Nadal Knocks Out Maximilian Marterer To Record 900th Match Wins

Rafael Nadal blasted through to the round of last eight after a decisive victory over Maximilian Marterer To Reach his 34th quater-final in Grand Slam tournament at Roland Garros.
The German, 23, started off strong and won two games 0-2 at the opening set before the Spaniard made an aggressive takeover and controlled the match with excellence forehand shot, coverting advantages and keeping his backhand shots deep into the court to put the German in check and won the round, topping straight in three sets by 6-3 6-2 7-6 (7-4).
The World no. 1 who is bidding for his 11th title at Roland Garros, having won the match, marked his 900th match wins which was last attained 50 year ago, and his currently the fifth player ever to reach that feat in ATP men's tennis history.
Speaking after the match, Nadal described match as "been positive" for him and admitted that the third sets was tough when he face chances of dropping a set, but held up strong and converted every advantage to seal to 900th match wins.
"The match in general terms has been positive. [The first two sets] 6-3 6-2 was a very positive 12 games for me. Then, in the third set, I had the chance at the beginning to get the break and probably take an important advantage to close the match, but I didn't convert it...then I suffered in a tough third set. I stopped [using my] legs a little bit, I. Terms of play8ng aggressive, and that, of course match the match more equal. He's a good player" he said.
The Spaniard who marked his 32nd birthday yesterday will face in the quater-finals Diego Schwartzman who knocked out Kevin Anderson after topping five sets by 1-6 2-6 7-5 7-6 (7-0) 6-2.
