French Open 2018: Novak Djokovic Knocks Out Fernando Verdasco To Reach The Quarter-Finals
Novak Djokovic seemingly cruised through the match in spite of resilience from Fernando Verdasco who caved in to defeat in the round of last 16 at Roland Garros.
The Spaniard showed strong resilience at the opening set in the first two games, but that did not last as he was bedevilled by hitting wide and unforced error as the Serb moved on to break the sets and won the match by 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 after about two and half hours of play.
The former world no. 1 remained unbeaten by the Spaniard in ten years, in spite of his struggle with using drop and overhead shots to gain points especially at the first set which lasted almost an hour, he maintained control of the game with his powerful aces and forehand as his 33-year-old counterpart is kept in check, and sealed his victory smashing a forehand shot deep across court which Fernando hit wide on his backhand return.
The Serb, 31, will face in the quarter-finals Italian player and world no. 72 Marco Cecchinato who knocked out David Goffin after topping four sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
