French Open 2018: Marco Cecchinato Knocks Out Novak Djokovic With Superlative Performance
Novak Djokovic could not make it past the quater-finals as Italy's Marco Cecchinato had better control of the match and made it through brilliantly to the semi-finals after four sets by 6-3, 7-6(4), 1-6, 7-6(11) at Roland Garros.
The Italian started off with a comfortable win at the opening set, and made a stunning comeback to win second set at 5-6, he saved more points to his advantage and sealed the win with a forehand shot after a tie-break.
Meanwhile, Djokovic gained momentum at the third and swiftly took down the world no. 72 but that did not last down as the emotional troubled world no. 20 at fourth set could turn the lead 2-5 to his advantage, letting the Italian saved more points and moved on to win the set at 7-6(11).
Having won the match, Cecchinato became the lowest ranking player at Roland Garros to have reached the semi-finals, and will face Austrian Dominic Thiem to knocked out German Alexander Zverev in three sets.
