Fever-Tree Championships: Marin Cilic Beats Novak Djokovic To Win The Title For The First Time In Six Years
Marin Cilic stopped Novak Djokovic from winning his first title of the year since his return from elbow surgery, after coming from behind to claim the victory at Queen's Club for the second time since 2012.
The Croatian started off dropping a set to the 12-time Grand Slam winner before making stunning improvement and fought strongly back to defeat Djokovic in three sets by 5-7, 7-6 (7-6), 6-3.
Marin has now beaten the former world champion twice in all encounters to bring their ATP FedEdx Head2Head count to 14:2.
Speaking at a court-side interview, Marin described the final match as "extremely tough match" saying, "No breaks for me until that last game. I just definitely feel relived that I won it."
Recalling his loss to Feliciano Lopez at the final last year, Marin expressed his delight at winning the trophy once again saying, "I waited for six years and lost twice in the past six year. Its always a pleasure for me to play here in front of this amazing crowd and i'll be coming back every single year."
