Eastbourne International 2018: Andy Murray Claims First Match Win In A Year
After nearly a year of inaction, Andy Murray comfortably take down Swiss player Stan Wawrinka to claim his first match win in nearly a year at Nature Valley International on Monday.
It was match well and brilliantly dominated by the British ace and former world champion, and after an hour and 20 minutes he knocked out the Swiss in straight sets by 6-1 6-3.
Hip injury forced the Scot out-of-action for nearly last year after appearing at Wimbledon during which he was knocked out by Sam Querrey in five sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 in the quarter-finals.
However, last week, on his return to action at Fever-Tree Championships, he started off with a defeat to Australian Nick Kyrgios in three sets 2-6, 7-6(4), 7-5.
Speaking about his return to action in a court-side interview he said "from the amount of practise that I have had and how I have played in the matches, i'm pretty positive that maybe not this week or next week. but given a bit of time, I can still compete with the best players again."
Murray who is ranked world number 156 will face in the next match British no. 1 Edmund Kyle on Wednesday.
