Canada Grand Prix 2018: Sebastian Vettel Celebrates 50th Race Victory With Win In Montreal As Lewis Hamilton Finishes Fifth
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel enjoyed race dominance, controlling it through to the finish line for his career's 50th race victory at Circuit Giles Villeneuve in Montreal, as his counterpart and Mercedes' driver Lewis Hamilton suffered mechanical issues to finish in fifth place.
The German controlled the race from start, letting no rooms to errors to finish in 1:28:31:377sec ahead of Mercedes' Valterri Bottas who outpaced Red Bull's Max Verstappen to finish in second place as the Dutch came third.
Vettel's win in Montreal has catapulted him over Lewis Hamilton in drivers standing which he now leads by the whiskers with 121 points ahead the Briton who is in second place with 120 points.
Hamilton could have finished in fourth place but the position slipped off him after pitting to address issue with overheating, and that gave the chance to Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo to undercut for the position, which he fought hard to recapture from the Australian who kept the pace up until the finish line.
Speaking after the race, Sebastian described the race as one that is "unbelievable" for him saying, "I said yesterday how much this place means for Ferrari. To have a race like we have today is unbelievable."
