Madrid Open: Novak Djokovic Beats Japanese Kei Nishikori To Reach Second Round

Novak Djokovic had a successful match in the first round of the Madrid Open after beating his Japanese counterpart Kei Nishikori to reach the second round.
Kei was really tough for the former world no.1 at the first set but he soon regained his aggressive form and took him down in straight sets 7-5 6-4 which lasted for two hours.
Kei, who faced Rafael Nadal in the final of Monte Carlo Masters final, took the Serb head-on at the first set but blew his chances at 6-5 when he hit wide a backhand after the 10th seed smashed a forehand return to win the set. At the second set, Djokovic came stronger into the match as the Japanese was ravaged by unforced error and hitting his backhand wide.
Speaking after the game, Djokovic admitted good performance displayed by the Japanese as he said: " It was strange, I must admit, playing Kei in the first round. Our ranking dropped due to injuries and everything else...I've played Kei on big occasions, in many of the big tournaments, finals and semi-finals. It was different to play him in the first round, though."
Djokovic will face Ukrainian Daniil Medvedev or Great Britain's Kyle Edmund in the second round on Wednesday.
