Kendrick Lamar Becomes First Rap Artist To Win Pulitzer Prize

Kendrick Lamar has reached a remarkable milestone in his music career as he was announced the winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his album "DAMN."
The Compton-born rapper who won four Grammy awards at its 60th annual music event, became the first rapper and first artist outside Jazz and classic music to win prize after the prize was announced on Monday. 
According to the statement of Pulitzer adminiatrator for the prizes, Dana Canedy, at an interview after prizes have been given out, the rapper was chosen as the prize winner for his album "DAMN." after a unanimous decision was reached by the board because the album articulated well the Hip Hop culture.
"The time was right. We are very proud of this selection. It means that the jury and the board judging system worked as its supposed to - the best work was awarded a Pulitzer Prize. It shines a light on hip-hop in a completely different way, " she said.
Given the ground on which the rapper, 30, was the choice of the jury of five-person presented to the board, Dana said his album was seen as "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."
The Kunfu-rapper was not available at the ceremony and was represented by Terrence Henderson, a record executive from his Label, Dwag Entertainment. 
Recently, the Billboard also announed that Kendrick Lamar scored his third-million album sale with "DAMN." which has sold over a million copies in traditional album units.
