BNP Paribas Open: Maria Sharapova Loses First Match To Naomi Osaka
Maria Sharapova lost her first round match to Japan's Naomi Osaka at the Indian Wells tournament in California.
The Russian was ousted out of the tournament by the 20-year-old in straight two sets 6-4 6-4.
Sharapova has been triying to find her top form since her return to the sport after 15-month ban for doping offence.
The former world number one tried to find her feet in the game at both sets, but Osaka took her down still, and acknowledged after the game it was a "honour" to play with the Russian.
"I knew (Sharapova) would fight for everything," Osaka said after the match "because I've watched her since I was little. I was just really honored to play her."
