Rotterdam Open: Roger Federer Becomes Oldest Player To Rank World No. 1 After Beating Robin Haase In Quarter Final
Roger Federer has become the ATP World No.1 after beating Robin Haase from a comeback in the quarter final at Rotterdam Open on Friday.
Haase started of strong against the Swiss and was later subdued in the second set to lose by 4-6 6-1 6-1.
However, Roger, 36, was last ranked number one in 2012 and has regained the spot from Raphael Nadal and he is the oldest player in the histroy of the sport to have ever reach that feat.
He said emotionally in an interview after the match, that attaining the world one ranking "is the ultimate" for any athlete in the sport.
"What an amazing ru it has been. To clinch world number one again really means a lot to me," he said.
"Reaching world number one is the ultimate achievement in our sport...To get there at 36, almost 37, is a dream come true. I can't believe it."
He will play against Andreas Seppi or Daniil Medvedevin the semi-final at the Rotterdam Open on February 16 (Saturday).
