Australian Open: Raphael Nadal Beats Diego Schwartzman After Dropping A Set
Raphael Nadal had a tough one and managed to outweigh his Argentine counterpart Diego Schwartzman, in an intense fight for the quarter final of the tournament which he won after three four sets 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3 that lasted for 3 hours 51 minutes on Sunday.
The Spaniard had a good time at the first set, but had to re-establish his control and with better serve to win the match after losing the second set to the Argentine, who held him in a tie-break to win the second set. Nadal, at third and fourth set came back stronger with more control and better serve.
The 31-year-old has now reached the quarter final his 10th Australian Open, and for the first time at this tournament dropped a set.
"You can't expect easy matches when you're playing big tournaments. It was a tough match in general terms," Nadal admitted to fight his way through with Diego.
"He did a lot of things well and I didn't play as aggressive as I did the last couple of day. That's why I was suffering more...But I played with determination and that's what I am going to need, and I need to serve well."
Having reached the quarter final, Nadal is guaranteed of retaining the No. 1 position after the tournament and will face Croatia's Murin Cilic at the next match.
