Australian Open 2018: Roger Federer Beats Tomas Berdych To Reach Semi-Final, Becomes Oldest Player At That Stage In 42 years
World No. 2 Roger Federer in a comeback beat Czech Republic ace Tomas Berdych at the quarter-final of the to reach his 14th Aussie Open semi-final.
The 31-year-old who is also the tournament's defending champion, won the match in three sets 7-6(7-1) 6-3 6-4, and has won the Czech ace twenty-time in all 26 encounters he has had with the Czech.
Federer had a tough fight with Berdych who started off strong in the lead 3-0 at the first set until the tidy turned in the favour of the Swizz who gained control over the match later on.
"I hung around, got a bit lucky, a frustrated, maybe at the umpire, but I actually thought the cell was good anyway. I'm happy I got out of that first set," he said in an interview with Jim Courier after the match.
Federer has now become the older player to have ever reached this stage in a tournament since 1977, and will face South Korean Hyeon Chung at the semi-final
