Australian Open 2018: Caroline Wozniacki Reaches Final After Elise Mertens' Defeat
Denmark's tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki reached third major final in her career after beating Belgian Elise Merten at the semi-final of the Aussie Open in Melbourne.
The second seed, Caroline, in 70 minutes was through with match with World No. 37 Elise after two straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
From the start, the 27-year-old Dane showed an impressive performance with good serves until second set when the Belgian held her to a tie-break.
Speaking after the match by the courtside, Caroline talked about how much getting to reach the final means to her and how she fought through her late wobble in the second set.
"It means so much to me. I always believed in myself. I had a tough period where I had a few injuries," recalled the period she dropped in rating in 2016 "That was kind of hard and tough mentally. But once I got past that, I knew that if I can stay healthy and I work hard, my game is good enough for it."
She now will face at the final Romania Simona Halep who beat German Angelique Kerber in three straight sets 6-3 4-6 9-7.
