Rafael Nadal Wins Doping Allegation, Gets £10,400 In Compensation
Rafael Nadal has won a lawsuit filed against a former French Sport Minister following a doping accusation, who has been instructed to pay $14,000 (£10,400) the ATP Men's tennis No. 1 in compensation.
The French court also landed the litigant with suspension fine of $590 (£445), for defamation statement in an interview against the Spaniard tennis ace.
Speaking about the verdict in a statement, the 31-year-old mentioned his image in the sport as one of the reasons he pursued clarification on the allegation.
"I intended not only to defend my integrity and my image as an athlete but also the values I have defended all my career," he said.
"I also wish to avoid any public figure from making insulting or false allegations against an athlete using the media, without any evidence or foundation and to go unpunished," he completed he speech.
According to the BBC, the ace intended to donate the all the money from the court ruling to France-based charity.
