Appeal Court Increases Oscar Pristorius' Sentence To Thirteen Years For Murder Of His Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp
South African Paralympics athlete Oscar Pistorius reportedly has got his prison sentence lengthen from six years to thirteen years and five months for killing his girlfriend Reeve Steenkamp.
The Supreme Appeal Court judges "unanimously" upheld previous sentence of six years the "blade runner" wanted overturned, and ruled that previous sentence be increased to 15 years, because they deemed the previous verdict was "inappropriate" for crime committed.
"I find it difficult on the evidence to accept that the respondent is genuinely remorseful...to explain why he fired the fatal shots," judge Seriti made known his position "The attempt by he respondent to apologise to the deceased's family does not demonstrate any genuine remorse on his part."
The 31-year-old athlete has already serve some months behind bars already which would be deducted from his current sentence and that resulted in him serving thirteen years and five months.
Oscar killed his girlfriend on Valentine's Day in 2013, having fatally fired four shots at the deceased after a rage claiming he mistook her for an intruder.
The accused will now be moved backed to maximum security prison in Kgosi Mampuru, where he had already served for months.
