US Open 2017: Sloane Stephens Wins First Major Single, Becomes US Open Champion
Unseeded tennis player Sloane Stephens, stunned her counterparts with an impressive performance and went past her compatriots, Venus Williams at semi final and Madison Keys at the final to win the US Open final.
In just 61 minutes, Madison did not take long to be beaten for Stephen, who was ranked 957th weeks ago, as she went down in two straight 6-3 6-0.
Stephen, now ranked 83rd, just made a comeback from an injury she suffered in January to win her first ever Grand Slam.
"I had surgery in January," she said "If someone had told me then that I would win the US Open, I would have said it was impossible."
Stephen joins the Williams in major title holders as they were the only American women winning major single title after Jennifer Capriati since 2002.
