Euro 2024: Germany Claim Opening Game Win Against Scotland

Scotland got off to a disappointing start to the Euro 2024 with thrilling 5-1 loss to Germany in a dominating opening game to the latter.

The Germans had the upper hand from the start took an early lead from Florian Wirtz's strike that was followed up with Musaila's smacking home Kai Havertz's assist from inside the box.

Havertz added in the third from a penalty drawn by Musaila before halftime. After the break, Fullkrug curled home a loose ball from inside the box to put the side clear by four goal minutes after replacing Havertz.

What could have been a clean sheet victory for Germany was ruined by Rudiger's own goal following a set piece before Emre Can scored the winning goal for the Germans in the stoppages.

Credit to Germany for dealing to Scotland the biggest loss by margin in a European competition, and for Wirtz, he became the youngest player to score for his country in a European competition.

Overview

It was not the best of outcome the Scotts would have wanted but not what Germany can not achieve as they barely were troubled in their halve for much of the first half.

The goals came in handy for the Germans, and since they had the centre half in their control, they could penetrate through the centre to open the Scotts' defence to get the balls in. Musiala and Havertz's impact on the game was astonishing and that is not to mention Fullkrug's second half coming off the bench.
