Euro 2024: England Maintain Group Lead With Draw Against Denmark

England narrowly secured 1-1 against Denmark in second group stage game in Frankfurt and shared points with their opponents to maintain leadership in the top spot of Group C.

Denmark comeback to force a draw against the English side after they had dropped behind from Harry Kane's opening goal, as the Bayern Munich forward tapped home Kyle Walker's cross from the right. The scores were leveled minutes later as Morten Hjulmand smacked a 30-yard shot to beat Jordan Pickford following an England throwing.

The Three Lions narrowly missed the chance of getting ahead when Phil Foden's shot struck the woodwork and also narrowly missed rolling into on rushing Bukayo Saka's path for the finishing.

England now lead their group with four points and will meet Slovenian in their last game of the group. Denmark are second with two points and will meet Serbia in their next game.

Overview

It was somewhat of a stunner how Denmark leveled the game from a set piece England could not make something out of but the goal was sensational nonetheless and within a scoring range for Hjulmand. It was also worth commending how Walker anticipated attacking poor hold of the ball by Anderson in the build up to the opening goal from Harry. However, the Dane were the better side and were more composed than their counterparts.

Denmark played defensive in the second half, and while they seemed defensive, they won more of the balls than England did. In the midfield, they were stronger since their opponents lose the ball to poor passes: they played more as a team. Still, it was tactical of England to have kept the draw anyhow to secure their lead in the group.
