Italian Open: Jannik Sinner Beats Alexei Popyrin To Reach New Milestone In Masters 1,000

Jannik Sinner kicks off his Italian Open campaign with his 30th straight Masters 1,000 match win, defeating Australian Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 in the second round.

The Italian picked up early breaks in both sets, and the decider was a one-sided run for Jannik, breezing through by breaking three straight times to lead 6-love. The match lasted for just one hour and five minutes, bringing the player closer to his campaign for his fourth consecutive Masters title.

At the last edition, Jannik lost in the final to Carlos Alcaraz, denying him his maiden Italian Open title as the home favourite. However, his match-winning streak this season, now at 25 unbeaten matches, has earned him another record, making him the second player, after Novak Djokovic, with the longest Masters 1000 match-winning streak in a single season.

Since the last edition of the Paris Master, Jannik has remained unbeaten at every Masters 1,000 event he participated in. Earlier this season, he set a new record for the longest set win at the Masters 1,000 event, winning 37 consecutive sets.
