Chelsea Rally Impressively To Beat Tottenham At Home

Chelsea claimed an interesting derby victory against Tottenham, coming from behind to win by 4-3, with Cole Palmer scoring twice from penalties. From the maximum points gained, the Blues consolidated their position in second place to trail by four points the table leaders, Liverpool. 

The Spurs emerged at their home venue, which has lost its ‘fortress’ status for having failed to win three games on home soil in all competitions, leaving them in a vulnerable position in the Premier League. 

Solanke scored the opener for Tottenham before Kulusevski doubled their lead six minute later. Both goals came from Cucurella's defensive errors - he slipped off on both occasions.

Soon after, Sancho pulled one back for Chelsea to bring the Blues back into the game. In the second half, Chelsea came all-out-offensive and found the equaliser through a penalty kick from Palmer. Palmer later came terrific with a goal-bound shot that ricocheted to Enzo Fernandez to finish off for the third goal. 

The situation later became dire for the Spurs as Pape Matar Sarr's foul on Palmer drew another penalty and the England international delightfully converted the spot-kick. Son Heung-min later reduced the deficit smacking home James Madisson's cut-back from inside the box in the stoppages. 

Ahead of the derby at Arena Stadim, Tottenham's rollercoaster season had taken a dramatic turn when they fell below Bournemouth into tenth place with a 1-0 loss away to the Cherries during the week. It led to some ugly post-game scenes where head coach Ange Postecoglou confronting booing supporters in an attempt to keep his side level-headed.

Sunday’s defeat at home to Chelsea pushed Tottenham one spot down to 11th in the standings. They now have 20 points from 15 games. The result also extended their winless run in the league to three matches.

Costly outcome for Tottenham all on the backdrop of Sarr's defective defending that handed two penalties out to Chelsea to complete their comeback. Though the later stages witnessed chnages from Madisson connecting needed passes to initiate an offensive that culminated in Son's narrowing the deficit but that could only end as comsolatory to the Spurs.
