Manchester United: Odion Ighalo Hopes For Loan Contract Extension

Odion Ighalo is hoping his loan contract at Manchester United be extended until the end of the season having being interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

The Nigerian international joined the club from the Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua in January and has been offered a £400,000-a-week two-year contract by the side to encourage his return from Premier League in summer.

Expressing his desire to finish the season at Old Trafford, Ighalo told the BBC Sport that his scoring form has improved since his arrival and hope to return with the team to play when the season resume because the lockdown has shortened his loan spell at Old Trafford.

"I was in good form, good shape, scoring goals and now we've stopped now for over a month," he said. "At the moment I'm on loan, and this will cut short my time at the club."

Some European leagues are set to return mid-May amongst which is the German Bundesliga but hames are expected to held behind close-doors over the fears of football fans contracting the virus.

Ighalo has scored four goals in all eight appearances, winning the praise of his manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer for contributions that helped the team through to the Last eight of the Europa League in massive 5-0 win over LASK.

Though the former Watford striker did not say anything about been already offered an extension or not but went further on the impact of the lockdown on the team that: "The club, myself, every footballer is going through a lot because we can't do what we love and what we know how to do best."
