Lyon Call Out To French Government To Reconsider Season Cancelation
Lyon FC have called out to the French government to reconsider maintaining the restriction placed on professional sporting events, an order which has forced the Ligue 1 season to end abruptly.
President of the Ligue 1 side, Jean-Michel Aulas, urge the government in a letter written to the authorities to lift the restriction otherwise football clubs in the country will suffer devastating "economic and social crisis."
Aulas argued further that the league was canceled "very quickly" compared to their European counterparts who are set to reopen from next month. He mentioned that the "Bundesliga has resumed matches on May 16" to drive home his message to the authorities which reportedly plan to ease restrictions nationwide from June 2.
"How can France not be downgraded very quickly and see its professional football devalued?" Aulas wrote in the letter. "Many development and hopes are expected on this date so that France can gradually regain a good dynamic."
Late last month, the French authorities announced the cancelation of the 2019/20 season for both Ligue 1 and 2 as the lockdown on large gatherings like football over the coronavirus pandemic, will remain in place until September.
Already, Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned the season champion in compliance with UEFA directive that allowed domestic leagues to decide on the winners on merit and without discrimination if they can not finish the season over the coronavirus lockdown.
