Australian Open: Roger Federer And Novak Djokovic Advance To Last Eight
Novak Djokovic has set up a quarter-final match against Milos Raonic as in the quest for title defense after outclassing Diego Schwartzman in his fourth-round match by 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Up until the fourth round, Diego had played through previous rounds without dropping a set and meeting with Djokovic would eventually mean his elimination despite efforts to rally and push the match further.
By the way, the Serb did not find it easy with the 14th seed who managed to rally in the second set after giving away a breakpoint to lose the first three games before losing the set. Djokovic wrapped up the decider at 5-4 by winning four straight match points.
"I was obviously [focused]. It's the fourth round and Diego is a great quality player," Djokovic admitted when asked about how the managed to come out of the match without losing to the Argentine.
He added, "I knew if I gave him he could do a lot of damage from the back of the court. He's one of the quickest players in the tour and I tried to mix it up, maybe bring him to the net few times with the slice and it worked really well."
In the same vein. Roger Federer in later draws, dropped the opening set first and breezed through three remaining sets, 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-2, to eliminate Hungarian opponent Marton Fucsovics and qualify for the quarter-finals.
Winning this tour for Federer will be a record-equalling for him with Djokovic who leads with seven titles to be the all-time biggest winner. However, the Swede will be playing against American Tennys Sandgren in the last eight.
