NBA Finals: Toronto Raptors Crowned Champions, Become First Canadian Side To Lift NBA Trophy

Golden State Warriors' championship run has been snapped by Toronto Raptors which defeated them on the road by 114-110 in a highly energetic game on Thursday night that saw Klay Thompson leave the court in crutches after a knee injury.
Being a first-timer, Raptors have also become the first Canadian franchise in history ever to lift the NBA championship trophy.
Both sides played beautifully well and afforded no chances, even at the exit of Thompson in the fourth quarter, Warriors could have clinched the victory had Steve Curry dunked a three-point attempt in last 6.9 seconds. Kawhi Leonard quickly set up a turnover and converted a free-throw after a technical foul was called on Warriors, giving Raptors a 112 -110 lead in the last 9 seconds.
Despite Thompson's injury, he led the standouts with 30 points and five rebounds and Draymond Green added up a triple-double of 11 points, 19 rebounds and 13 assists.
Pascal Siakam took the lead for Raptors with 26 points, 10 rebounds and three assists while Leonard followed in second place with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists.
"I thought they really fought hard. They were tough-minded," Raptors' head coach Nick Nurse praised his team on their victory to take a 4-2 lead in Game 6.
"They didn't seem like this was wearing on them at all. two months of the playoff basketball, they never seemed tired to me."
Leonard who has been Raptors' stronghold through the playoffs and most importantly in the finals series against Warriors was awarded the NBA Finals MVP Award - his second since 2014 against San Antonio Spurs.
"Just being able to win the championship this year is just something special for me," Leonard said afterwards "I stayed true to myself and I had a great support system."
