Finidi George Resigns As Super Eagles Head Coach, Here Is What You Need to Know

 


Days after the loss of the Fifa World Cup qualifier game against Benin Republic, the NFF in a Thursday communique following a meeting, said that an appointment of a new technical adviser would come "in the coming weeks" and apologised to Super Eagles' fans for the team's outings in recent days.

In compliance with the Minister's directive, the NFF at the end of its meeting in Abuja announced the decision to hire an expatriate coach for the Super Eagles. The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting reads: "The Executive Committee resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches."

"Still further to above, the Committee resolved to beef up the NFF Technical Department with more qualitative hands. Equally, the Technical and Development Sub-Committee will be shuffle with immediate effect." 

Going by the new development, Finidi George, who currently heads the technical crew of the Super Eagles will revert to his former position as assistant coach of the national team. To that effect, Finidi resigned from his position as the head coach of the Super Eagles. After a development triggered backlash from fans calling for his dismissal.

Meanwhile, Finidi had reportedly made up his mind on a decision to step down days after the NFF announced moves to bring in a foreign technical adviser as the exit was confirmed by former Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, on his social media account. Also, he spoke on reasons Nigeria have failed to win a match out of four games in the qualification series, the latest being a shocking loss to the lowly Benin Republic in their last clash.
