Euro 2024: England Get Perfect Start With Opening Game Victory Against Serbia

England sealed their opening game of the Euro 2024 with 1-0 victory against Serbia from Jude Bellingham and are now leaders of Group C with three points.

Bukayo Saka produced the needed cross that right picked out Bellingham and the Real Madrid player leapt for the aerial ball from Saka and headed it home from close range.

Later in the second period, Serbia came close to leveling the scores with efforts from Vlahovic and Mitrovic but brilliant saves from Pickford Jordan helped keep the side through. Harry Kane also had a glorious moment to score with a header but Rajkovic got his finger tips to the ball and parried the ball into safety.

With the victory, England have maintained their unbeaten run in opening games through four major competitions played under Gareth Southgate since 2018. For Serbia, they have extended their winless run in major competitions to 10-in-13 games.

Overview

Three Lions fairly dominated the game from the start and the Serbians efforts at keeping close tab on Harry Kane did not stop the side from finding the needed opening goal in the early stages. Bellingham facilitated the build up and completed the attack leading to the goal.

As Serbia barely cause a scare in the English half in the first period, they yet were closely marked with the defenders keeping tab on Mitrovic as England repeatedly could burrow through mostly from Saka's wing which was effective for the side on the attack.

England later drop deep into own half in the second half as the opponents came out stronger in search of an equalizer. That was needful and multiple saves from Jordan Pickford helped keep England in the lead.

Another comendable effort was from Harry Kane. Besides making good efforts at the front, he also helped at the back especially the moment he headed clear into safety a goal-bound shot.
